A Sailing Safari

Prince William Sound, Alaska 1988

It was August 1988. At the time we knew we were the last tourists of the season to go on a sailing safari in Prince William Sound. However, what we didn’t know at the time was that we would be the last tourists to go on a sailing safari in Prince William Sound for years to come. It was only a few months later, in March 1989, that the Exxon Valdez oil spill occurred.

All images are scans of 35mm slides. Thus, though the quality may not be high, they serve to tell a story 25 years later.

Our destination was two glaciers flowing from different sides of a mountain and that entered the sound at the same place. I wonder what this scene looks like today.
